ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Come be part of this fierce feminist flashmob protesting violence against women!

Check the video (link below) to learn this incredible viral protest piece and then come join us to perform at the March4Justice next Monday.

MARCH4JUSTICE
12PM MONDAY, MARCH 15, 2021
KING GEORGE SQUARE, BRISBANE

Video Link: vimeo.com/520824191

Here’s some background Herstory on the protest performance:

“The rhythm is infectious, the crowd of women exuberant as they pump their fists and move their feet. Their voices rise as they chant the chorus line, translated from the song’s original Spanish: “It wasn’t my fault; not where I was, not how I dressed.” How many women wouldn’t guess, from those words alone, that this is about rape? And it is that visceral, shared understanding that has helped a song and dance, devised by a little-known Chilean feminist collective called Las Tesis, spread across the globe.” Gaby Hinsliff, The Guardian
(To read more go to www.theguardian.com/society/2020/feb/03/the-rapist-is-you-chilean-protest-song-chanted-around-the-world-un-iolador-en-tu-camino).

WHAT TO WEAR:
All black with red accessories – shoes, ribbons, scarves, lipstick etc.

ABOUT THE AUSTRALIAN VERSION:
We’ve changed the structure slightly to be a call and response so it’s easier to pick up for people who can learn it on the day. But if you do get a chance, have a look at the video and get familiar with the moves. You can find the lyrics to learn in the description on the vimeo link. On the day we’ll also teach the song/dance with you before the march and perform it with you both then and at the end.

Feel free to adapt the last few lines repeating ‘el violador eres tu’ (‘the rapist is you’) to your own first language. We’ll be singing these in homage to the originators of the song, the Chilean feminist collective Las Tesis.

There are obvious differences between Chile and Australia’s political landscape, but the fight against systemic injustice to women is something we hold in common. We hope you can dance with us!

“The big magic of Apocalipstick is in its queer joy, its (literally) balls-out feminist comedy that speaks directly to its audience. There is no male gaze here, my friends: in fact, toxic masculinity is cleaned up with a spray of ‘Antibac Off’. And, with a well-deployed leaf blower, Young Harrison will have you adding the phrase ‘stroking the Ryobi’ to your lexicon.” ~ Zenobia Frost

“In every scene of laughter, silliness, and absurdity, there were layers of politics, emotion, anger, fear, rage, despair, love. From another point of view, Apocalipstick is as eviscerating and horrifying as it is funny.”
